Summary/Abstract: The article shows the views of traditional Ottoman society of the writer, the publicist and the intellectual Pierre Loti that fits into a wide context of a problem of a phenomenon of “the other” studied in philosophy, sociology, psychology, history. It reveals how pages of the autobiographical novel “Asiade” show social and political life of the drooping Ottoman Empire in the last third of the 19th century. The analysis of perception of the Turkish social and political life by the French author which was under influence of the stereotypes of superiority of the western civilization reigning in the European society, but at the same time had his own view of the Turkish reality, helps to expand knowledge of history of the Ottoman Empire and the idea of mental climate of France, considering that the ideas of the writer as well as possible satisfied the needs of intellectuals for the exotic of the East world.
