Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the problems of unity of cultural space Ukraine in the context of current practices in multicultural societies. The author has attempted to consider the modern principles of multiculturalism, outlining its specific features, identify fruitful areas in the cultural space of Ukraine. Now that the same principles of multiculturalism reasonably put into question, the search intensified in Europe and the world, and on the Ukrainian territory. The absence of the dominant majority indicated by the authors in 2004, although Ukraine distinguishes among European and even post-Soviet countries, but does not negate the need for such a national cultural policy (and in some ways and enhances it) that would meet civilized, democratic and legal standards and at the same time ensure the unity and development of ethnic culture of the title, which for centuries suffered harassment primarily in the cultural field. It is worth mentioning that the issue of equal rights for cultural expression rights of different cultural groups that exist in the shared state, political and legal environment has two dimensions, that they might be called "internal" and "external". "Inside" associated with the need to preserve and further develop the cultural polyphony of all European nations, united within the European Union. This is an inherent saving different European national, regional groups own symbolic and emblematic of the series by the same core’s value – respect for others. The coexistence of diversity in culture may in one's own cultural field. So, "external" dimension of European multiculturalism encountering a natural question: how is it possible to ensure equality of who advocates it, and who does not recognize her? European practice now shows only the opportunity, when equality – any political, legal or cultural – can only be provided from within the equality of enforcement mechanisms, including her. Thus, the policy of multiculturalism as a political and legal equality of rights to cultural identity and cultural self-expression, which demonstrated its limitations and dangers of self-expression collision with cultural communities – carriers opposite oriented value system introduced in specific Ukrainian conditions can be devastating and scorching. It can be an alternative cultural policy, protectionist about Ukrainian culture in all its regional and local variations.
