Summary/Abstract: Verses in Chinese culture are considered to be poetry, only in case they possess inner musicality. Such music qualities as rhythm, tempo, and melody only transport the outer features of musicality to the verses. The inner musicality is reached in Chinese poetry through the dynamic of mental images (wind, human, old friend, meaningful place), through the development of such topics as time/eternity, finiteness/endlessness, death/immortality, through mirroring philosophical concepts of a great silence, harmony of the unsaid word and of an unheard universal sound correlating with Dao.
