Summary/Abstract: The aim of this essay is to discuss the way in which Spanish words and phrases are deliberately combined with the English ones in the Chicano/a literature to reflect the ethnic identity of the speakers of Chicano English. This is done through the analysis of three short stories written by Sandra Cisneros, with particular stress laid on the situations in which code-switching is employed.
