The „Memory Records” of Ivan D. Shishmanov as a Cultural History Source

Summary/Abstract: From among the various intellectual endeavors of the renowned scholar, social and cultural persona, Prof. Ivan D. Shishmanov, his diary records deserve special attention. They fixated the memory of daily life and extraordinary events reflecting the serious attitude of the writer towards the historical source, the document, the personal archive, towards his personal written legacy. The diary of Shishmanov presents a kind of panorama of the Bulgarian morals, the political and cultural environment where he was an active figure. The ideas on the national psychology of certain social types (our and alien), on the social morale, the satirical attitude of a vigil social consciousness correspond to the inclination towards another plane of expression. That is the more plastic in aphoristic pathos language of epigrams. The “pictures” of varying genres invoke analogies and parallel interpretations, create interesting inter-textual interaction.
