The Polish Office for St James the Greater

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the "historia" for the feast day of St. James, copied in the fourteenth century antiphonary from Kielce. The text is based on the apocryphal life of the Apostle, while music makes occasional use of melodies originally composed for "historiae" of St Adalbert, St Stanislaus and St Hedwig of Silesia. The Office, written in prose and verse, apparently by some Polish author ca. 1300–50, was not edited in "Analecta Hymnica" and perhaps that is the reason why it has been neglected by Polish musicologists so far.
