Summary/Abstract: Ukrainian chamber instrumental music of the XXth century (especially of the last third of it) and of the first decades of the XXIst century is a significant reflection of the trends that started to develop in European composer practice as early as the beginning of the mentioned period. This is brightly demonstrated by work in chamber instrumental music by Gennadii Liashenko, a composer of symphonies, who combines organically in his creative work intellectual with emotional, deep psychologism and concentration on individual’s inner life with admiration with beauty and greatness of the universe. The field of chamber genres has become for the composer the same important sphere of realization of his own worldview as symphonic, orchestral field.G. Liashenko appeals to chamber music genres during his whole life: from sonatina for piano created in 1964 to works of 2015 – Technema No 4 and String quartet No 3. The instrumental palette of chamber music by G. Liashenko is very rich. The composer masterly works with piano timbre thoroughly painting superfine details of his sound pictures. The piano becomes a participant of different duets: those with viola, cello, domra, saxophone. The capabilities of stringed instruments are used in traditional format of quartet, instead in forming wind ensembles the artist is focused on constant experimentation in the manner of baroque experience. Sophistication of timbre combinations and strengthening consideration for the factor of sound space of the work that especially expressively shows in the artist’s chamber music starting from the 1990s coincides in time with showing his interest to sonorics and related to this technique of modern composition activation of timbre colored basis.
