Summary/Abstract: This article is about special effects (often abbreviated as SFX, SPFX, or simply FX) used in the cinematography, television, video games and mass spectacles Special effects are conventionally divided into three groups: visual, practical and noise. Visual special effects include optical effects and computer graphics. Practical (physical) effects are technical gizmos and pyrotechnics, as well as varieties of smoke, haze, fog, snow, water, fire and more. Noise effects are associated with the use of sound. The most popular visual effects include projection, LED screens, computer graphics, laser shows etc. Projections are certain images on any surface. They can be programmed in lighting plots, which needs no manual synchronization. Recently, during public festivities and shows, LED screens are most widely used. Full-color light motion screens combine all the main benefits of the existing scenic technology and allow reaching out to largest audiences. Strobe lights are illuminating devices that require no detailed description. By connecting several strobe lights to the central control panel one can program fancy lighting effects. Laser show systems also belong to visual special effects (animated lasers, lasers on racks, laser fill, 3D laser systems).
