Summary/Abstract: Dialogical Type of Art: Communication in the Contemporary Ukrainian Theater Art of the second half of the twentieth century has been looking for its way out in the public space by intervening in social reality, involving the community in the creation of art. One of the first and most radical manifestations of such cultural practices was the so-called Situationist International (1957 – 1972) led by Guy Debord, the author of "The Society of the Spectacle". By theater, the Brazilian director Augusto Boal with his "Theater of the Oppressed" was doing a similar intervention in public space. Such an "effective art" is often deprived of clear criteria of artistic evaluation, because it is closely linked to activism or social work. In modern Ukrainian theater of recent years, this problem is also updated by the emergence of various forms of documentary theater, which cooperates with a community, as well as "Theater for Dialogue" which works not with the professional actors, but with the representatives of different social groups. Therefore, it is important to consider the theoretical approaches concerning the art that goes beyond purely artistic phenomena.
