QIRA’AT/WAYS OF READING QUR’AN

Summary/Abstract: Muhammad Asad (Leopold Weiss, 1900-1990.), a revert to Islam, is one of the many thinkers which greatly influenced Western Muslims opinion during the second half of the XX century. Among others, the most important Asad’s work is a translation and commentary of the Qur'an in English entitled ‘The Message of the Qur'an’. In the first part of this work we deal with the question of importance of knowledge of Qira’at in Islamic sciences. Another part of our work illustrates Asad’s reliance on Qira’at in his translating solutions of Qur'anic verses.
