Summary/Abstract: Culture and mental patterns carry both dynamic and static properties. For this, these structures are carriers of change and continuity together. Although the progress and change discourse of culture, melodramas are carriers of cultural continuities and thus in a certain degree conservatism. Yeşilçam Cinema on a large scale carry melodrama properties. Although it has similarities with Western melodrama in terms of form features, traditional properties also maintain their effect. If it is in an altered form, Yeşilçam films were produced, received and marketed in accordance with traditional culture and mental properties. In this work, melodrama narratives in Turkey will be analyzed in terms of the continuity of the traditional structures and values. Apart from the West, traditional properties unique to us in these popular narratives, which was transmitted from Turkish popular novels to Turkish films, will be discussed in terms of production and reception properties, narrative structures, emotional discourse and ideological proposition. From these perspectives, the transmission from Hıçkırık novel to Hıçkırık film will be analysed; as a subject of intertextuality, the relation between them will be examined according to the traditional structures and the characteristics of traditional narratives. While following the traces of aesthetic and mental continuities in these narratives, the main aim is to emphasize the ways in which they relate to the tradition.
