Summary/Abstract: Ivo Samson has undertaken an attempt at analyzing terms that appear in the mass media, diplomatic reports, official resolutions of world institutions, as well as other documents: the Middle East or, as the case may be, the Near East. He notes certain paradigms in the initiatives of the EU, NATO and individual countries. They all have received wide repercussions: the Barcelona Process, the Mediterranean Dialogue, the Mediterranean Partnership, the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative and the Greater Middle East Initiative.
