Summary/Abstract: In his symphonic poem "Sunčana polja" Blagoje Bersa uses techniques of textual and tonal description in order to portray Dalmatia. Apart from genre-specific elements of pastoral music, he also uses well-established metaphors of a landscape bathing in sunshine, which by inserting Catholic liturgical formulas he elevates to an evocation of a transcendent ›region mystica‹. In so doing, Bersa paints a picture of an awoken Dalmatia, which had previously been formulated by the Croatian romantic poet Petar Preradović. However, he further develops this imagery in the sense of romantic genre hybridity, thus intensifying its suggestive potential.
