Summary/Abstract: The article sheds light on strategies of nation building at the crossroads of music, literature and their negotiations of topographical processes. During the Romantic period, ›kolo‹, a typical South-Slav round dance, became an object of intense literary actualization. By analysing some ›kolo‹-poems, the article discusses forms and functions of literary mapping folk culture, literary reflections upon geopoetical and geopolitical invention of the nation (i.e. of the folk) as well as the simultaneously occurring interweaving of musical and literary effects. The focal point of analysis is guided by the intention to reproduce outlines of South-Slav identity constructs beyond the national.
