Russia’s Strategic Culture

Summary/Abstract: Strategic culture matters. As a pattern of behaviour resulting from shared experiences and symbols, it determines the course of action and ways of achieving goals. Strategic cultureis structured by internal material (size of the state, natural resources, economic, military andsocial factors) and non-material conditions (history, relations with other states, historicalmemory). External factors are also important: geographic location, the neighbourhood andregional order. The aim of the text is to analyse the strategic culture of Russia and to shedlight on the conditions of Russia’s strategic culture, its hallmarks and impact on foreign andsecurity policy.
