Summary/Abstract: The article discusses a newly developing branch of stylistics - ethical stylistics. The author gives the following operating definition of its subject: ethical stylistics is a branch of applied linguistics that studies texts and discourses whose verbal expression is purposive to asses in the aspects of ethics, i.e. which verbal expression has the dimensions of ethics. The texts that contain expressive, stylistically marked, law style, negatively connoted lexis will often get into the purview of ethical stylistics. The mass media, law-courts, politics and pedagogical practice are the professional fields to which the ethicalstylistics would be especially relevant; belles-lettres is a peculiar field. Besides, the society's concern about the ethical side of the verbal expression is externalised by such metalingual comments in non-linguistic discourses as šiurkščiai tariant ''rudely saying", negražus žodis '"ugly word", toks žodis įžeidžia "that word is insulting", kaip čia švelniau pasakius "how to say it more delicately".
