Summary/Abstract: Motivation: The issue of energy security is the subject of constantly recurring political de-bates. It is caused by the lack of agreement on the proper direction of energy production development. Energy security is a complex issue, the analysis of which requires, in addition to economic aspects, environmental, legal and political considerations. The desire to assess the relationship between the current energy situation and the Polish energy security and the desire to assess its potential effects in the context of the listed aspects was the main reason for choosing the subject of this article. Aim: The aim of this paper is to present the relation-ship between the use of conventional and renewable energy sources and Poland’s energy security in the context of environmental, legal and political aspects. Results: Several conclu-sions can be drawn from this analysis. Firstly, the high level of air pollution was caused by a very unfavorable structure of energy sources. Secondly, there was a conflict of interest be-tween the Polish coal-based energy policy and the EU’s low carbon policy. Thirdly, the rela-tionship between governmental activities and a significant slowdown in the development of renewable energy in Poland has been demonstrated, which may have negative consequences in the future.
