Summary/Abstract: Eyal Zisser tries to explain the situation in the country before and after the parliamentary elections held in May and June of this year. In order to understand the meaning of the results of these elections for the country, one must understand some features of the political environment in Lebanon. He tries to show that although the results of the elections may appear to be a victory for the opposition and for the young people who spent days in the streets fighting for democracy and a new order, similar to the demonstrations of youngsters of their age around the world, in fact even the elections and events that led to the expulsion of the Syrian army didn’t necessarily mean that a real change of political order in Lebanon was eminent and that the country was on its way to becoming a modern western style state, which many people in Lebanon and abroad are wishing for.
