Characteristics Contemporary of Urban Development of Banja Luka

Summary/Abstract: The change of the social system of the former socialist countries is manifested through a number of social processes in which the morphology of the society has been changed. New social relations and social groups change urban space. The newly created urban forms and spatio-functional organization are the result of post-socialist urban transformation that has established other principles of legality in the evaluation of urban space. Unplanned development of major urban systems threatens their viability. This paper analyzes the characteristics of active participants and characteristics of urban development and post-transitional and spatio-functional transformation of Banja Luka, the largest urban center of the Republic of Srpska, and it points out the consequences which are the result of newly established social relations and urban structures.
