Summary/Abstract: Family and children are one of the most important values in Poles’ life in the light of surveys and research. Poles declare their desire to have children and at the same time indicate economic barriers to their possession. The aim of this article is to present and analyze the level of costs of raising children and professional activity of women in Poland in 2010– –2016. As a result of the studies, it has been shown that the appearance of a child in the family results in an increase in expenditure per capita and an increase in the level of employment of women. In all types of households with children. This confirms that the model of the sole survivor of the family (father of the child) is difficult to implement today. Pro-family policy should therefore be aimed at reconciling both social roles of women – parenthood and work. The article uses the literature of the subject, statistical data of the Central Statistical Office and report of the Center A. Smith, 2016.
