Summary/Abstract: The newly established NBU Readers Club gathers for the first time to discuss The Remains of the Day, the famous novel by the Nobel Prize winning author Kazuo Ishiguro. How do we empathize with a character whose experience is so remote, encapsulated and different from our own; is this a novel about britishness and how it should be read in the current Brexit times; to what extent this is a historical novel; what circumstances defined the ending of the book… These are only part of the questions that were passionately posed and debated by the three hosts from the Department of New Bulgarian Studies and the audience.
