Summary/Abstract: The article presents assumptions to the model of an optimal space, taking into consideration the preferences of analysed type of users. The purpose of research was defining model features and space attributes of riverside areas, being of key importance for their recreational use by a specific group of users, which are the students. The accomplishment of the purpose was based on the method by A. Lis, taking into account the conditions of humanenvironment relations in terms of environmental psychology. These relations were determined in four crucial aspects – functional, territorial, interactive (interactions between users of the space) and visual (aesthetic and semantic). The result of the work is defining the model-standard of the space for specific user, which can be used as a tool in design process to evaluate selected riverside areas in terms of their attractiveness for the student as well as to determine spatial recommendations regarding changes of the way of developing and land management.
