Summary/Abstract: This article is an attempted analysis of the concept of animal spirituality as proposed by Adam Mickiewicz in his Paris lectures. The Mickiewicz presentation is juxtaposed with Ralph Waldo Emerson’s thought and romanticist vision of nature. The category of empathy and the idea of man’s mystical tie with the entire world come to the forefront. A theory of lost bond with the world of animals is presented, forming a premise for criticism of rationalistic concepts concerning animals and for commendation of a romantic vision of the world.
