Summary/Abstract: In the last decade of the past century the digital was already well known. Authors and publishers understood the potential danger: once the text was released, there was no possibility to control its further dissemination. At that point copyright came into focus and debates and discussions about it started.Attempts at modernising European copyright:The Guidelines on library legislation and policy in Europe were prepared and published in 2000 for the audience of library policy makers and legislators to apply. In 2001 the European Union prepared a new Directive 2001/29/EC on the Harmonisation of Certain Aspects of Copyright and Related Rights in the Information Society, with the aim of harmonising national legislation of its member countries and making it suitable for the digital environment. Directive allows libraries to reproduce works which they possess, but they can make them available to users in their premises only. The WIPO (the World Intellectual Property Organization) international attempts:The Marrakesh Treaty was adopted on June 27, 2013 in Marrakesh and it forms part of the body of international http://www.wipo.int/copyright/en/ copyrighttreaties administered by WIPO. It has a clear humanitarian and social development dimension and its main goal is to create a set of mandatory limitations and exceptions for the benefit of the blind, visually impaired, and otherwise print disabled.
