Summary/Abstract: The importance of universities of the third age in the lives of older people is determined by the fields of interest and activities they are offered there. U3As constitute essential and valuable areas of activation and socio-cultural animation of the elderly. The variety of activities realized by U3As, among others from the area of education, culture, and health prevention, perfectly underlines the fact that they are institutions, which include in the scope of their activities not only education, but also social support, social participation and socio-cultural animation.
