Summary/Abstract: The making of gifts is an essential and enduring element of the ritual system of traditional Bulgarian culture. In more recent times and particularly under socialism, when various changes set in the structure of the wedding ritual, the exchange of gifts gradually changed some of its basic functional characteristics and acquired a multitude of new features
