Summary/Abstract: This article is an attempt at taking a broader perspective on the object, scope, and methodological orientation of today’s cultural comparative studies and on its status and role in the trans-discipline, anthropological-cultural turn in the literary-theoretic discourse at the turn of the 21st century. The present considerations are meant to confront the semantic scope of the notions ‘inter-artistic comparative studies’, ‘inter-semiotic comparative studies’, ‘inter-media comparative studies’, in the context of methodological functionality of the notion of ‘intertextuality’ and so-called ‘interdisciplinary comparative studies’. The subsequent threads in this reconstruction of the directions of our contemporary literary-theoretic discourse refer to: text as a cultural medium; multidisciplinary character of comparative studies (post-paradigmatic status of cultural comparative studies); comparativist perspectives of the anthropological turn in the humanities, literary ethnogenesis and ‘imagology’ as a comparatival methodology.
