Summary/Abstract: In Bessarabia were established zemstvo medical hospitals in the second half of the 18th century. But the population health care remained on account of private physicians who come from other countries. In 1870, on the outskirts of Balti, began construction of a new hospital with two levels which was partially completed with the financial support by private individuals. In 1884, Calistrat Hâncu (Hânculov) the chief doctor built a zemstvo hospital building (premises of the former section of infectious diseases). All expenses for the building have been supported exclusively by) landowner Nicolae Casso (Casu), the great patriot of the country, marshal of the nobility of Balti County. The author presents an important page in the history of the Balt city, the evolution of health care based on authentic documents from archives and libraries
