Summary/Abstract: It is in the interest of each country to take measures in order to insure familial environment for a child in a permanent family. The task of adoption is to create for children left without parental care circumstances of upbringing in the family, providing a stable and harmonious living environment.The Theme “Adoption Process Problems in Latvia” is a hot topic, because in today’s society, where many children are left without parental care, the adoption is one of the best ways to ensure care for the child’s best interests. In legal terms the adoption creates full parent-child relationship. The adoption process is fully within the competence of the Orphan’s Court, starting with an application for the adoption, ending with the opinion on the compliance of adoption with the interests of the child. The target of the publication is to analyze the legal framework of the adoption process and the Orphan’s Court participation in the adoption process, revealing the problems existing in the regulatory framework and making proposals for its improvement.
