Present-Day Challenges to Identity: Models of Self-Transcendence

Summary/Abstract: This paper looks at different approaches to the issue of identity considered within the context of postmodernity and multiculturalism. It identifies two contemporary models of self-transcendence that in spite of their differences are brought together by a common denominator: the assumption that a genuine dialogue with the Other, or the different, might be the solution to some of humanity's identity-related problems.
