Summary/Abstract: This article includes a research into the phenomena of deconsecration and dediabolisation that are regarded as the landmarks of the contemporary French political discourse. We departed from the tetradic scheme of the sign elaborated by the Belgian semiotician Jean-Marie Klinkenberg and applied the characteristics of the political discourse to the said scheme. In this article, we entail upon the dimensions of the Stimulus and the Significant. We have reached the conclusion that the gap between the Significant and the Signified is on the increase, with the phatic function prevailing over the referential one. The political discourse is growing more encrypted and a semiotic approach to its essence would largely facilitate the genuine awareness of the current political events.
