THE GAME OF MEANING IN THE CONFINES OF TEXTUAL AMBIVALENCE

Summary/Abstract: If really the basic function of language is communication, then it is natural that the discourse or speech be meaningful, not only for what it conveys but also for what it could have conveyed. This study aims at analyzing the change from « denoted » meaning into the « derived» one, measuring the influence of syntax upon semantics, and revealing the importance of the link between thought and language, seeing that meaning does not always directly pertain to grammatical rules.
