Summary/Abstract: In democratic contexts, competition among different political parties is a permanent. Citizens, therefore, become the targets of the speeches of various manipulators who are in quest of positions. This paper aims at showing that in such a political environment, the consideration of the audience is part and parcel of the discursive strategies used by Paul Biya1 in his speeches in order to have an influence on his audience. Using the tenets of discourse analysis, this work, therefore, examines the strategies used by this leader in order to involve in his speeches the audience so as to achieve an effective communication. So, in his speeches, his presence is not felt and he makes use of various discursive strategies in order to make the audience assume the responsibility of what he says. The image of the audience is highly taken into consideration in his apologetic talks.
