Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the paper is to provide a description of labour relations shaped in the Polish agriculture in the conditions of market transformation and Common Agricultural Policy. The analyses rely on the data from the National Census and he results of sociological research. Labour relations in the Polish agriculture are of dual character. On one hand they are still characterised by strong family ties and relations, but on the other hand – by the connections to the market and the formalised EU rules, being the instruments of the Common Agricultural Policy. Family ties determine the scope which one could consider to be the representation of the family farming, which is regulated by the social expectations contained in the traditional models of social roles. The connections to the market, on the other hand, are shaped by the developing commercial farming sector which, after the start of transformation following the collapse of the real socialism, has been developing dynamically. Both types of the relations are shaped in accordance with different patterns, they are regulated by different norms and build different social relations.
