Summary/Abstract: The new requirements of the society to the graduates are conditioned by the development of a new type of economy, which presupposes the existence of intellectual, communicative, self-organizing, spiritual and moral principles in the activities of a specialist. The competence approach to education is currently being considered as a means of its modernization and claims to be the conceptual foundations of educational policy and manifests itself as a result of the ability of a graduate to operate effectively beyond the standard learning situations i.e. to simultaneously design academic knowledge and competence, when requested a certain amount of professional knowledge and skills and competences that are typical for any profession.An educational phenomenon is a professional competence of a teacher, which is a multi-level integrative personal education, based on positive motives of choice of the profession, of the whole system of knowledge, skills, practical experience, reflective activity, dialogic culture, which is expressed in theoretical and practical readiness and ability of a specialist to an effective solution of educational problems.The implementation of the competence (competence-based) approach is divided into three aspects– conceptual, technological, instrumental and methodological, which gives the opportunity to present it as a methodology for designing and predicting outcomes of vocational education that meets the current needs of modern society and, first and foremost, the interests of the graduates of pedagogical universities.Competence as the possession of basic competencies is considered to be the goal and personal result of education, ensuring the successful functioning of the specialist in professional activity and personal sphere of life.Key words: competence approach, competence, competency, professional competence of a teacher, pedagogical conditions of formation professional competence of a teacher.
