Summary/Abstract: This paper considers the key factors to establish the science on genocide, its object and method. The scientific language comprising notions and terms with meanings strictly defined within the realm of the particular science make up an important element of any science. The phenomenon of genocide attracts particular attention as an important factor of societal reality, to be studied from the point of view of different sciences and scientific disciplines. Since genocide is a societal phenomenon and its subjects are people – both its perpetrators and its victims, with its own structure and a process, it is mainly the subject of study of different social sciences, or rather one particular science, the science of genocide, and an autonomous concept in the system of social sciences. Numerous scientific and other papers relate the appearance of genocide to the appearance and the notion of the Holocaust, which requires us to indicate the terminological difference between these notions, rather than the difference in content. The most productive and the only valid way to gain scientific knowledge is research, and this paper thus emphasises its importance as the general, i.e. the most general integral and synthetic scientific method, usually applying almost all the research methods determined by the features of the phenomenon - the object of study, the type of research and scientific designation.
