Summary/Abstract: The Black Sea has a strategic location: it is positioned at the crossroads between Europe and Asia, the vast Russia and the Middle East and directly links Southeast Europe to Western Europe via the Danube River and the Mediterranean, and currently, the enlargement of NATO and the EU have made it a border for the EU and the Euro-Atlantic powers. This position has given rise to controversial theories. This paper intends to analyze its importance in present times. If in ancient times it has witnessed a competition between the great powers of the time and domination by one, the Byzantine Empire, Ottoman and finally Russian, and the Cold War isolated it to a great extent of the rest of the world, nowadays, the evolution of the global system resulted in bringing international attention to the littoral states and the sea itself, while even talking about a Black Sea Region.
