Summary/Abstract: In the period from 1981 to 1989 the journalists of the social-political weekly „Rzeczywistość” warned against the increasingly powerful European Community. Analyzing the political transformations in the EEC they suggested that these transformations were aimed at winning both an economic and military advantage over the socialist bloc. The journalists emphasized that the steps taken by the EEC served the purpose of restoring the economic and military potential of the FRG. In their opinion, the cooperation of socialist countries, exercised within the framework of the CMEA, was superior to the cooperation in terms of customs finance trade, finance, and investment of the EEC, which restricted the sovereignty of its member states. The paper presents the opinions by Stanis³aw Ch³odzik, Hubert Koz³owski, Jan Norski, Kazimierz Nowak, Jerzy Pardus, and Wojciech Klechniowski, to name but a few, on the economic, political and military integration of West Europe, the USA-EEC alliance and the increasing importance of the Bundeswehr in the security system of a uniting Europe.
