Summary/Abstract: The creator of this archive fund was the priest and Old Slavonic erudite Paul I. Mihail (June 29 1905 – October 11 1994). Starting with 1974, he donated an impressive amount of family documents (personal papers, paternal genealogical trees, personal journals), manuscripts, historical documents and items of correspondence to the State Archives in Iaşi. Mihail Paul was born in Cornova locality, Orhei county (present-day Ungheni rayon, Republic of Moldova). The present work is an homage paid to Father Paul Mihail, a Bessarabian from the land of Orhei, devoted researcher of Slavic documents and manuscripts from Mount Athos and the entire Slavic area of Europe. The fund also comprises a rich collection of items of correspondence, in the form of 5325 letters, received or mailed throughout the country and abroad, between 1939-1994. Many of these letters refer to the correspondence between the father and many figures in the fields of Romanian science and culture. These are of a wide variety, as they are written in Romanian, Russian, Czech, Bulgarian, French, Italian, Polish.
