Summary/Abstract: From the stranger’s perspective, Europe is an apparatus of stabilised and closed visibility which incorporates the stranger’s view as an instrument that a priori embraces and acknowledges the originality and the authenticity of the apparatus itself, its “here and now” which makes it different from all other apparatuses. However, something strange has happened with this apparatus in the era of globalisation: it has started to stumble, slow down and weaken. From the point of view of the stranger, this can be explained by the European obsession with the original and the unwillingness of Europe to change its attitude towards copies.
