Summary/Abstract: The article presents the creation of laws, regulations and other normative documents related to the legal deposit system in Bulgaria and their importance for the preservation of the national literary heritage. The stages in the creation, development and changes in the legal deposit legislation of printed and other works in Bulgaria are outlined from the adoption of the first law in 1897 to present days. An overview and analysis of the current legislation and normative documents are made. Traced and analyzed are the changes, problems and trends related to legal deposit.The legal deposit legislation of 1897–2017 ensures the preservation of the national cultural heritage, provides universal access to the national literature and secures that published testimonies of human memory, creativity and discoveries will be preserved and accessible to future generations.
