Summary/Abstract: Thomas Edwin Utley was one of the most remarkable conservative journalists and political commentators in Great Britain after the Second World War. The article presents his views on the relationship between morality and law, religion and politics and church and state. Utley wrote a lot on the need to preserve tradition on the one hand, and the necessity to accommodate oneself to civilizational changes on the other, and on the relationship between Anglicanism and Catholicism and their respective heritage. The article confronts Utley’s ideas with those philosophers who come from the so-called traditionalist Toryism, like Roger Scruton, Elie Kedourie, Edward Norman and Maurice Cowling, and other remarkable modern British thinkers.
