Summary/Abstract: Missionary activities of the Church determine her very nature and vitality. She tries to discern the signs of time and stand up to challenges. One of the most conspicuous signs of times today is the increasing damage of our natural environment. There are even places on earth no longer suitable to sustain life. Ecology has become an important issue. Ecological projects attract attention and resources of governments and civic organisations. The church actively participates in addressing the ecological problems in many parts of the world. In 2015, pope Francis issued encyclical letter on care for our common home, Laudato si’. Ecotheology reflects on ecology in the light of the Revelation, treating them as transcendental and spiritual values. The earth, “our common home”, was given to man as gift and responsibility. Men must remember about that responsibility, recognise the causes and effects of environmental degradation, especially through neglect and/or excessive consumption of natural resources, and address them. Care for our natural environment is part of the missionary activity of the Church, too.
