Summary/Abstract: Professor Géza Fehérvári, a world-renowned authority in Islamic art, died on 21 December, 2012, at the age of 86, in London. With him one of the last great historians of Islamic art passed away who shaped the field over its 20th-century course. The road he took to becoming an established international scholar was his own choice but the unforeseeable u-turns on the way were not. He may have received some early impulses towards this path through family members who were working at different industrial companies that supplied overseas markets, yet the real eye-openers were school-time excavations at the castle of his native town Eger.
