A Miraculous Person: The Icon. Doctrines and Practices of the Image in Transylvania

Summary/Abstract: After having distinguished the status and the use of the (religious) image in Oriental and the Occidental Christendom, Anca Manolescu studies two cases of the miraculous Virgins in Transylvania (in the monasteries of Moisei and Nicula). This allows her to propose an interpretation of the complex economy of the icon, linked not only to the fidelity to the archetype, but also to older and more recent practices born in connection with the archetype.
