Administering the Temporal Assets of the Archdioceses of Alba-Iulia and Făgăras at the Turn of the 20th Century

Summary/Abstract: The present study aims to emphasize some of the characteristics of the ecclesiastical administration of one diocese of the Romanian Greek Catholic church in Transylvania at the end of 19th Century and the beginning of 20th Century, namely the Archdiocese of Alba-Iulia and Făgăras. The personnel involved, the managed foundations, some methods applied came in turn to our attention in order to highlight some of the characteristics of financial administration of the period under analysis. We used a series of unpublished archival sources in order to delineate the complex process of ecclesiastical management and, as well, the limits of Romanian Greek-Catholic church’s bureaucracy, at the turn of the 20th century.
