Summary/Abstract: In this study the author approaches the issue of the enrollment of Romanian students in vocational schools in Italy at the beginning of the twentieth century. Relying on unpublished archival sources, the author retraces the main academic destinations of such students to schools in Milan, Padua, Scafati. A series of agreements existed between the Romanian and the Italian state regulating this type of academic exchange and, financially, the Romanian state was the main supporter of these students. The author admits that in terms of the mechanisms of creating an academic elite this process had little significance, the only actual effects referring to a higher level of professional experience of returning students, experience that could possibly be disseminated in factories in Romania. Lastly, the author offers several concrete nominal data regarding such Romanian students that chose Italy as an academic destination.
