Summary/Abstract: The administrative arrangement of the province Transylvania was in the Fifties of the nineteenth century one of the most important goals for the neoabsolutistic Austrian Government. Many efforts on the level of public administration tried to implement the best organizational type for this peripheral province of the Austrian Monarchy, but in lack of an “infallible” and universal administrative scheme for the entire state in order to satisfy all the existing needs, the result of this measures was a large series of experiments, aiming the introduction of the best possible administrative order. From the temporary division of the province in military districts, through the “civilian “ arrangement in May 1851, and until the planned new administrative reform of the year 1853, the general vision of the leading figures evolved regarding the necessities and the role of the Administration in the province. However, these planned reforms were not indeed implemented, but the discussions around them show us the level at which the Austrian politics treated the problems of the Principality of Transylvania. Later, in the year 1854, a new, definitive administrative and organizational scheme was introduced in the entire Monarchy, which gave a uniform shape to every component Kronland, as a centralistic measure, but too as a step towards a modern administration. The proceedings regarding the administrative Reform in the year 1853 were an intermediary step in this direction, and their details reveals us many facts about the Province of Transylvania in this period.
