Summary/Abstract: The article belongs to the area of contrastive text linguistics in the broad sense. The author seeks to answer the following question: To what extent do articles from two magazines, ‘Jaskinie’ (Caves) and ‘Die Höhle’ (‘Cave’) provide a good starting point for a contrastive analysis? No specific text types are described but, instead, the content of both magazines is compared in a variety of aspects. The magazines are published in different languages and cultures but they deal with the same topic and fulfil a similar function. In order to specify how comparable the magazines are, the author examines the following criteria: volume, layout, main information, frequency of publishing, publisher, advertisements, accessibility to all potential readers, limitedness, language, topics, range of readers and degree of professionalism. The analysis aims to show specific similarities and differences, which can be helpful in further research in contrastive text linguistics.
