Summary/Abstract: In every person’s life it is a significant event to celebrate the 70th birthday. It is especially so if the person celebrating his birthday worked in a field that requires a change in the pace and way of life at this milestone of his carrier. This is true for university professors, including Károly Gadányi. Professors who, besides their active work as teachers and researchers, filled official academic management and social functions with serious responsibilities and highly demanding obligations feel in a special way in such a situation: on the one hand, they feel relieved because they are liberated from the enormous burden of an energy and time-consuming activity, which is not so difficult to get used to but, on the other hand, it is a much heavier burden to experience the termination of active teaching activities and the lack of daily encounters with young people.
